The Miss
ouri National Guard Association Executive Council met yesterday. Dr. Joel Denney briefed the Board as to the current status of State Tax Exempt for Missouri Guardsman. He first addressed Senate Bill 814. That is the current bill allowing State Tax Exemption for the Active Component. The Missouri Department of Revenue has still not issued a decision as to how that bill affects National Guard in an active duty status. We hope to have that determination this week or next. He then briefed the current status of Senate Bill 144. That is the current legislation that clarifies the verbiage in SB 814 and clearly includes National Guard Airman and Soldiers starting in 2019. That bill was voted out of the Senate Veterans Committee and is now moving towards “perfection.” So what that means is knowing the bill has to pass both the Senate and House before it is placed before the Governor for law, it is roughly one half way through making it past the Senate.
We have a belief that this could become law before the end of this congressional session. If you have questions please feel free to contact your MoNGA Enlisted Representative through the “Ask Your Enlisted Rep” on the website or message any MoNGA board member through the mobile app.
